Victory Promotions Northern Area champion Kevin Carr, of Jai Suu Muay Thai in Blyth, has been announced to defend his title against UK Independent K1 Ranking’s #1 55kg fighter Gary Laws, of Northern Kings in Newcastle.
“Big” Kev is a two-time Northern area champion and slugged out a hard-fought decision loss against UK’s top talented Cody Ditcheva (Northern Spirit) for the DUEL National title at the weekend. Both fighters put on a crowd-pleasing 5-round display but it was Cody’s reach advantage that prevailed, landing the more effective shots and taking the unanimous decision.
Gary Laws was also in action on the same card, making his DUEL debut against international sensation Fred “The Joker” Cordeiro for the WKL European title. “The Joker” is somewhat of a DUEL favourite having finished his previous three DUEL contests with highlight reel stoppages, collecting the DUEL Super-Fight Championship on the way.
Laws proved a stern test for the 20-year-old Portugese superstar, but it was “The Joker” who added another stoppage victory to his record in the third round to become the new WKL European champion.
Both Kevin and Gary will be looking to bounce back from their recent losses when they face each other for the Northern area title at Victory Promotions‘ Battle of the North on Saturday 25th June at Scotswood Sports Centre, Newcastle.
Both these fighters are a true testament to the talent emerging from the North East fight scene and this match-up is one all fight fans in the region are excited to see. This one is not to be missed.
